STROTHER FORD TIPTON REED CHAMBERS
|
January 28, 2008
Indenture/deed-Buncombe Co.-on Pgs. 323, 324 & 326-"30 Nov. 1801...btwn
John STROTHER...and Benjamin FORD & John TIPTON...sum of thirty six
dollars...seventy two acres...East side of Pigeon river joining the land
where on the said Benjamin and John now lives...to the Pounding Mill
branch...to Pigeon river...down Pigeon river...to their own line...signed
sealed and delivered in presence of the wards and John TIPTON... State of
North Carolina Buncombe County January Session 1803. The above deed was
acknowledged in open Court recorded and ordered to be registered...
Certified D. Nance Clk." Looking for any information on the Benjamin FORD & John TIPTON listed in this deed. Deed made in 1801; but, not acknowledged in open Court till January Session in 1803 and it says in the presence of wards and John TIPTON; not Benjamin FORD and John TIPTON; so, suspect that Benjamin FORD was deceased by 1803. If an original copy of this deed exists does it say John Tipton FORD instead of just John TIPTON in this deed? Does anyone know where the Pounding Mill branch, mentioned in this 1801 deed, is located on a present day map? Also have two additional Buncombe Co.deeds one in 1802 from Robert REED to John T. FORD and in 1804 from William CHAMBERS to John T. Ford. Does anyone know if this John T. FORD is the same person referred to in the 1801 deed as just John TIPTON? John T. Ford is my 3rd. gr-grandfather. The land referred to in the 1802 and 1804 deeds is located in present day Haywood Co between Canton and Clyde, NC. Jane (Ford) Taylor |

WOLF HAYES |
December 26, 2007 William WOLF seemed to appear out of no where during the early 1800's in Buncombe County according to files at the OBCGS. Well that means that some family lost their William, now it seems that my family found him abt 1815 when he married my GGGrandmother Jane HAYES. And over the years William and Jane had 12 children, their first born was in 1818, John Jackson WOLF. Now this man was lucky enough that he was to become my GGrandfather. Now if the family that lost William would be so kind as to let my family know where William came from, who were his parents and did he have any siblings we would appreciate it very much. If you tell us where he came from we'll tell you what happened to him. Thank You!! Jim Wolfe |

J B's mother, Hattie Baldwin b 1879 Suspected father is a Robert Creasman per legend and he's listed as John Baxter's sister Leona's father on the Madison co (Marshal) record of births. HUGHEY EASON |
March 18, 2005
I am looking for the family of my
ggggrandfather, Samuel HUGHEY of Buncombe Co., NC, born about 1833. His
wife was Sarah Jane EASON, whose family was from Anson Co., NC. They had
six children, the eldest of whom, James Harris HUGHEY, was my
gggrandfather. They moved to DeSoto Co., MS, some time before 1855. I
have only confirmed Samuel's first name through one indirect source, so
not 100% sure about it. The information on Sarah is much more reliable.
Thanks in advance for any help.

HOOTS WILLIAMS GREEN |
January 16, 2005 Lawrence A. HOOTS is shown on the 1830 Buncombe County Census in Twp L. Where is that? By 1840, he is living in Henderson County on the Census, so I assume it is part of Buncombe made into Henderson in 1838. But after 1840, no Lawrence HOOTS is found anywhere -- he doesn't turn up until 1870 in the Sanford (now Lamar) County, AL Census. Does anyone know where he may have been between 1840 and 1870? His son Joseph HOOTS was born about 1825; the mother's name is unknown, but she was probably Cherokee. Does anyone know anything about her? More about Joseph, who married Eliza Jane WILLIAMS, daughter of Walter Watson WILLIAMS and Milly GREEN? Both Lawrence HOOTS and Joseph HOOTS were in the Civil War, and Joseph was killed, probably in TN, about 1863. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Jeaneane Williams |

PALMER, DOCKERY |
September 19, 2004 PALMER, DOCKERY Looking for ancestors of John Wesley PALMER Sr. and information about the mother of his wife, Ellender"Nellie" DOCKERY. Here's what we found so far: John Wesley PALMER Sr. (b: abt 1800 in VA; died 1845 in NC) married Ellender "Nellie" DOCKERY (b: 1807 in Caldwell Co., NC; died 1870 in Cherokee Co., NC) abt 1825 in Buncombe Co., NC. Ellender was the daughter of James William DOCKERY Sr. and Nancy UNK. These ancestors lived in "Big Sandy Mush" in Buncombe County, NC. Following the early death of John Wesley Palmer Sr., Ellender moved with her children (she had seven in the household when her husband died) to the Hanging Dog area (near Murphy, NC) of Cherokee County, NC. She reportedly lived near her brothers and never remarried. Here are the questions that are still unanswered: 1. Who were the parents/ siblings/ ancestors of John Wesley PALMER SR.? 2. Was John Wesley PALMER related in any way to Jesse PALMER, who also resided in the Big Sandy Mush area at that time? 3. Is John Wesley PALMER, SR. connected to George PALMER of VA, who fought in the Revolutionary War? 4. When/how/why and with whom did John Wesley PALMER, Sr. migrate from VA to Buncombe Co., NC? 5. How was John Wesley PALMER SR. involved in the Big Sandy Mush community (marriage record, census information, occupation, land acquisition/sale, religious affiliation, jury service, will....etc.)? 6. What is the maiden name of Nancy, the wife of James William DOCKERY, father of Ellender "Nellie" DOCKERY? Thank you so much for helping us with our family's ancestry search! Jean Darnall |

STIRLING ROSS |
July 16, 2004 STIRLING, ROSS My great-grandmother, Lilian STIRLING, and her sister Edith, were (according to the family bible) born at 41 Deney Street, North Asheville, NC in 1894 and 1896. The closest street I can find on mapquest.com is Dunn Street in Asheville. Does anyone know if there used to be a Deney Street? Lilian & Edith's sister Alice was born in 1889 in New York, so they would not have arrived in Asheville prior to 1890, and another sister was born in 1901 in Kentucky, so they were in Asheville for not more than 10 years. The story is that the reason the Stirling family was in Asheville was because some of the mother's family (her name being Elizabeth ROSS) were there already. Elizabeth ROSS (Lilian & Edith's mother) was born in County Armagh in Northern Ireland. I know very little about her family (despite repeated efforts) but her parents were Thomas and Sarah, and it's quite possible Elizabeth had a brother named Thomas. Are there any city directories from the mid-1890s that would show the Stirling family, and possibly also show a Ross family living nearby? Other resources from that era that would show the Stirling family (the father's name being Alexander or Andrew)? Thanks for any and all advice! Chris Shearer Cooper |

DILDINE |
June 29, 2004 I am researching Jonathan DILDINE. He is my ggggg-grandfather. In the Buncombe Co NC Court Minutes, July 1795 session reads, A deed from James Medcalf, to Jonathan DILDINE, for 200 acres of land was acknowledged in open court and ordered to be registered. Jonathan was a Rev War Vet who joined in Rutherford Co, NC. He rejoined in Union SC. Then he came to Buncombe Co NC. He went to Cocke Co TN when he left Buncombe Co. Because the 1790/1800/1810 and part of 1820 TN census was lost, I have no record of his children being in his household. We have other documents to tie them together. Can anyone tell me if there are any more records available on him other than this Thanks Peggy DILLDINE GUNTER |

LANE STRETT |
June 29, 2004 Govenor Strett Lane - Oregon - 1859. According to our records, General Joseph LANE was the first governor of the territory of Oregon. Sondley's History of Buncombe County, North Carolina says he was born in Beaverdam December 14, 1801. He was the son of J. LANE. Who was this John Lane? We have found a JohnLANE on the Buncombe County 1800 Census. In the family are one male 26- 45 years of age, one female 16- 26 years of age, and one male 0 - 10 years of age. We know that John LANE married Elizabeth STRETT. Buncombe County land records show a North Carolina state land grant for 300 acres in Hominey for John LANE. A John LANE purchased 100 acres on Newfound Creek. A researcher has told us that the governor's name was Strett LANE. Is Joseph and Strett LANE the same person? L.M. HUFFMAN |
January 4, 2004 I am desperately trying to locate HUFFMAN relatives. My father was WILLIAM HILLARD HUFFMAN, born in Massilon, Ohio, in 1893. His father was a Train Conductor for some railroad in Ohio. He had a younger brother, HAROLD HUFFMAN, who was a Merchant Seaman. My dad was stationed in Hawaii in 1919. He married my mom, Marie Manoa Waiki, and never left the islands. He never spoke of his family. He died in 1983 here on O'ahu. I would very much like to know who my grandparents were and if he had any other siblings. Mahalo! Karen Ann Kuulani Huffman Gonsalves |
