The following is a letter from Thomas K. Davis (c1830-c1905) to his wife Mary (nee Morrison) during the Civil War.  Thomas lived on Clear Creek near present day Edneyville, Henderson Co, NC, and moved to Asheville, NC, between 1860 and 1870.  Thomas was first in Co. B., 1st Regiment, NC State Troops CSA and later in Co. E., 64th Regiment, according to his pension application.  The 1870 Census shows him living in Asheville and a constable.  In the 1880 Census he was a U.S. Deputy Marshall.  At the time this letter was written he was with the 64th Regiment and believed to have been in the commissary.  In 1865 the 64th was based in Western North Carolina resisting the advance of Col. George Kirk's Federal Troops which were based in Greenville, TN.
