SWAN P. AND FRANCES (BELL) BURNETT FAMILY

Swan P. Burnett was born 24 Oct 1779, and married Frances Bell, daughter
of Thomas and Jane (Montgomery) Bell.
They immediately bought land west of the French Broad River where their
large family of eleven [sic] children were born. In 1835 the family
moved to Cocke County, Tennessee. Their children were:

William Claddius Burnett, b. 26 May 1802.
2.
Littleberry Burnett, b. 31 Aug, 1804, married Maria L. Hamilton.
3.
Thomas Montgomery Burnett, b. 13 Jan 1807. Moved to Cherokee County,
Alabama. Died 1840.
4.
Swan P. Burnett Jr. b. 1809.
5.
John Monroe Burnett, b. 3 Feb 1811, married Lydia Peck. Became a
medical Doctor and eventually practiced in Tennessee.
6.
James Madison Burnett, b. 20 Nov 1813.
7.
Cynthia C. Burnett, b. 19 Sep 1815, married Rev. Daniel Carter.
8.
Elizabeth M. Burnett, b. 12 Nov 1817, married William P. Hawkins in 1839
in Knox County, Tennessee.
9.
Jane Adeline Burnett, b. 14 Feb 1829, married Jehu Stokley of Bridgeport,
TN.
10. Narcissa
T. Burnett, b. 17 Dec 1821, married Andrew Huff.
11. Joseph
Jefferson Burnett, b. 7 Feb 1824, married 1st, _____? Huff, 2nd,
Esther Lea Carter.
12. Benjamin
Franklin Burnett, b. 14 Apr 1826.
13. Jesse
Montreville Burnett, b. 14 Sep 1829, married 1st Evaline Huff, 2nd,
Henrietta Cody. Died 1 Aug 1883.
14. Perhaps

Thomas Burnett,
so traditions claim, came from Virginia to Rutherford County, North Carolina
sometime before the Revolutionary War. He had at least two brothers:
Jesse and Joseph Burnett. Thomas Burnett married Elizabeth Littleberry.
Thomas Burnett was captured by Tories while on his way to the battle of
Kings Mt. and was stood up against a tree and shot to death. After
his death his wife married John Gasperson.
Thomas Burnett
was the father of:

who lived in Burke (now McDowell) County where he left descendants.
He was the father of 10 children.

Frederick Burnett
Sr. born May 11, 1770.
Frederick Burnett,
Sr. (Thomas), was born May 11, 1770 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.
He married April 14, 1795 in Rutherford County to Margaret (Peggy) Null
who was born April 22, 1780 in Rutherford County, daughter of Philip Null
of Lincoln County, North Carolina. In 1800 they moved to Buncombe
County, North Carolina to become the first permanent settlers on the North
Fork of the Swannanoa River. They were the ancestors of the Buncombe
County family. Frederick Burnett, Sr. died July 9, 1854 in Macon
County, North Carolina while visiting his daughter. The daughter
was Margaret who was the wife of John Shope the III. Frederick Burnett
was buried in Macon County. His wife Peggy died September 28, 1875 at their
home on North Fork and was buried in the Old Ingram Cemetery.

Swan Pritchett
Burnett (Thomas) was born October 24, 1779 in Rutherford County.
He married September 19, 1801 in Burke County, North Carolina, Frances
Bell, born November 25, 1782 in Irdell County, North Carolina. She
was the daughter of Thomas and Jenny (Montgomery) Bell who moved to Burke
County from Irdell County and later to Buncombe (now Madison) County, North
Carolina, in Spring Creek and still later moving to near Asheville, North
Carolina. Thomas Bell married 3 times and left children by two of
his wives. In 1834 or 1835 Swan D. Shope [sic - this is what the book says]
moved from Buncombe County to what is now Del Rio, Tennessee where he acquired
1500 acres and raised his family of 13 children.
